Concrete is simple to pour and easy to get wrong. Subgrade preparation, reinforcement, control joints, and cure conditions all decide whether the slab looks good in ten years or is mapped with cracks by next spring. We treat the flatwork as a structure, not a surface.

Control joints are how you choose where it cracks
Concrete will crack. The only question is whether it does so in a straight line you planned or a jagged one you did not. We cut control joints at the correct spacing and depth, and we place reinforcement so a crack that does form stays tight instead of opening.
Subgrade and drainage first
A slab poured on soft or uncompacted ground settles and breaks no matter how good the mix was. We compact the subgrade, build the base up where it is needed, and slope away from the structure so water does not sit against the foundation.
Curing is not optional in this climate
Concrete gains strength by hydrating, not by drying out. We protect fresh pours from heat, wind, and freezing and cure them properly. A rushed cure produces a surface that dusts and scales within a couple of winters.
Questions
Common questions
- When can I drive on a new driveway?
- Foot traffic after a day or so, vehicles at seven days for light use, and we recommend waiting the full 28-day cure before anything heavy. Exact timing depends on the mix and the weather during the pour.
- Can you match existing concrete?
- Colour matching new concrete to old is genuinely difficult — the old surface has weathered for years. A new section will always be visible to some degree, and we would rather set that expectation now than at the pour.
- Do you do stamped or decorative finishes?
- Yes — broom, exposed aggregate, stamped patterns, and integral colour. We will show you samples and talk honestly about how each ages here.
