How long does a kitchen remodel take?

A cosmetic refresh — counters, backsplash, paint, hardware — runs two to three weeks. A full gut with new layout, cabinets, and moved plumbing typically runs six to ten weeks on site, after a four to eight week planning and ordering period.

If you move plumbing, alter electrical circuits, or change structure, yes. Swapping cabinets and counters in place generally does not require one. We pull and manage whatever the scope needs, and the permit cost appears as a line item in your estimate.

Can I supply my own cabinets or appliances?

Yes, and plenty of clients do. We will review the specs before you order to make sure everything fits the plan, and we install them the same way we would our own supply.

We plan the whole job before demolition starts

Most kitchen remodels go sideways for the same reason: the schedule was built on optimism. Before we open a wall we confirm cabinet lead times, appliance dimensions, and the electrical panel's spare capacity. Anything with a six-week lead time gets ordered first. It is a slower start and a much shorter middle.

Older Portland homes need older-house experience

Much of our work is in houses built between 1905 and 1940. Knob-and-tube wiring, cast-iron waste lines, floors that are out of level by an inch across the room — these are normal here, not surprises. We scope for them up front and price them into the estimate rather than discovering them on day three.

You keep a working kitchen for as long as possible

We stage demolition so the sink and a working circuit stay live into the last practical week, set up dust containment at the doorways, and clean the site daily. It is still a construction zone, but it stays a livable one.
